The name Dorking comes from the Saxon name “Dorchinges”. Dorking was originally an ancient market town serving surrounding villages. Dorking’s five clawed fowl is the town’s famous symbol, represented by a 3-metre cockerel on the A24/A25 roundabout on the entrance into the town.

Dorking has an estimated resident population of circa 11,000 people.

Dorking offers a wide range of shopping centred on the High Street / Reigate Road with secondary retail shopping on West Street and South Street. Retail occupiers in Dorking include Waitrose, Sainsburys, Halfords, Costa amongst many others.
