Gloucester Area Guide
Gloucester: Commercial Property
Gloucester is the county town of Gloucestershire located approximately 8 miles west of Cheltenham, 35 miles north east of Bristol and 54 miles south of Birmingham. Gloucester is the 53rd largest settlement in the UK with an estimated population of 128,000 people.
Gloucester is well known for its 11th-century Gloucester Cathedral, which has Romanesque and Gothic architecture, plus the tomb of King Edward II. The great Cloister was used in the recent Harry Potter films.
The City of Gloucester is located on the bank of the River Severn, sheltered by the Cotswolds to the east, while the Forest of Dean and the Malvern Hills rise to the west and north, respectively. Gloucester is a port, linked via the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal which runs from Gloucester's docks to the Severn Estuary,
allowing larger ships to reach the docks than would be possible on tidal
reaches of the river.
The majority of High Street retailers are represented in Gloucester City Centre in both the King's Walk and Eastgate Shopping Centres. Independent retailers and niche boutiques can be found in The Cathedral Quarter.
Gloucester Quays Retail and Leisure Outlet Centre is a short distance from the City Centre. The historic quayside buildings are now home to over 50 stores with discounts rising to 70% off the recommended high street prices. Gloucester Quays has a great choice of restaurants, waterfront bars and coffee shops.
