Hastings Area Guide

Hastings | Commercial Property

Hastings is a town and borough located in East Sussex on the south coast of England, 24 miles (39 km) east of Lewes and 53 mi (85 km) south east of London

Hastings gives its name to the Battle of Hastings, which took place 8 miles (13 km) to the north at Senlac Hill in 1066.

Hastings is really three towns in one joined by a level promenade; the Old Town to the east, the contemporary shopping Town Centre in the middle and St Leonards to the west. Hastings has in recent years been called the new ‘Portobello Road-on sea’ or ‘Shoreditch on Sea’ as it has attracted an increasing young creative type, relocating from London. Hastings offers a range of antique shops and vintage galleries. Today Hastings is a popular sea-side resort.

There are two main arterial routes in Hastings. The A21 north toward London and the A259 Coast Road which radiates east / west. A new Hastings-Bexhill Link Road opened in April 2016 known as the A2690 which has reduced traffic congestion along the A259 Bexhill Road.

Rail links are good with services to Central London in approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.

Hastings has a pier which burnt down and subsequently closed in 2010. It has since reopened after a £14.2m refurbishment.
