Good News has been in short supply for the retail sector in Croydon.Since falling into Administration, Debenhams have been seeking to re-open stores, but failed to agree new lease terms with Centrale Shopping Centre owner Hammerson on its former store and consequently announced it would not be reopening after lock down, along with four other department stores owned by the same landlord in Birmingham, Reading, Leicester and Glasgow.
The good news is that Hammerson have announced new flexible lease terms have been agreed with fashion and beauty retail giant NEXT who will take over the existing beauty hall in the former department store. Next will operate the new concept beauty hall as a standalone pilot complimented by its already successful online beauty business.
Hopefully some of the former experienced beauty hall staff at Debenham's will now secure jobs within the new concept store.
