There was more retail doom and gloom on the High Streets of Surrey today.The Casual Dining Group which owns well known and loved retail brands Cafe Rouge, Bella Italia and Las Iguanas has gone into administration with the loss of 1,900 jobs. 91 retail restaurants are to close with Cafe Rouge outlets in Epsom and Esher in Surrey amongst the casualties.
The Casual Dining Group said that given the "extreme operating environment" it was in the best interests of all stakeholders to enter administration and allow the company to conclude negotiations with landlords over its estate. The closure of retail units in Surrey were part of a 'critical step' to be resolved prior to any sale.
This is another hammer blow for Surrey and particularly Epsom and Esher, following closely on the back of other high profile closures including Carluccios and Chiquitos.
Whist most of retail closures affect Cafe Rouge and Bella Italia chains, 11 Las Iguanas retail units will close plus 3 Belgo restaurants.
